United Motor Insurance provides insurance protection for you as the owner of a vehicle.

In Singapore, it is against the law to drive a motor vehicle without a valid insurance policy. The minimum requirement is that the Policy provides cover for personal injury to other parties.

Motor Insurance makes good sense. Besides covering you for personal injury to third parties, it could also cover you for costs if you damage someone else's property or for any other loss or damage you might suffer in a motor vehicle.

UOI offers three main types of motor insurance policies.

What is a No-Claim Discount (NCD)?
If you have not make a claim for a year or more, you are entitled to a No-Claim Discount (NCD). The NCD reduces the policy premium for the following year. The following table shows how the NCD is set:

Motor Claims Procedures

In the event of an accident,

1.Do not panic. Stay calm and take note of the vehicle number and the driver’s name, address and contact numbers.
2. If possible, take photographs at the scene of the accident showing the position of the vehicles and the damages. Forward the photographs to UOI as soon as possible
3. Ask for the insurance particulars of the other party/ parties involved in the accident.
4. Refrain from making any liability arrangement, offer or promise with regard to the accident.
5. Ask for the name, address and contact numbers of the independent witnesses, if any.
6. Complete Part I of the Singapore Accident Statement (“SAS”) at the scene of the accident together with the other driver involved in the accident. Sign it and have the other driver sign it too. Take one copy and give the other copy to the other driver.
7. Complete Part II of the Singapore Accident Statement (“SAS”) within 24 hours of an occurrence of an accident
8. This requirement is waived if your claim is only for windscreen damage (provided it is covered), in which case, please notify UOI’s Claims Department.
9. If the accident is:
a. an injury case;
b. a non-injury case involving a government vehicle or damage to government property;
c. a non-injury involving a foreign vehicle;
d. non-injury case involving pedestrian or cyclist; or
e. a non-injury “hit-and-run” case, lodge a police report in addition to completing the SAS Form. Submit to UOI a copy of a police report, insurance certificate, driver’s identification card and driving license within 10 days of the accident. This is regardless of whether you are claiming under your own policy.
10. If you are making a claim under your own policy, request the workshop to submit a quotation for repairs to UOI.
11. Insureds have the Option to go to ANY workshops of his choice to repair.
