Who is the operator of ST&T Haj EMA?
United Overseas Insurance (UOI), a subsidiary of
the United Overseas Bank Group (UOB) was incorporated in 1971 and is now
one of the major insurers in Singapore.
UOI
has been operating a takaful window for the last 5 years providing a full
range of general takaful products. UOI has been working closely with its
Syariah Advisory Council in all matters pertaining to its takaful portfolio.
Together
with ST&T International Pte Ltd, UOI has designed a comprehensive
coverage to suit the travel needs of our participants during their Haj
pilgrimage. It is a 3-in-1 package; Personal Accident, Emergency Medical
Assistance and Travel Inconvenience protection – a structured programme
for the well being of the Pilgrims.
- What is Takaful & how does it operate?
In Arabic, Al-Takaful means ‘Joint Guarantee’.
This refers to the assurance that some form of financial help is available
to address any misfortune, accident or disaster, events commonly known
as risks.
Takaful
operates on the basis of the pooling of resources and expertise of 2 groups
of people – policyholders who require financial help to address
their misfortune and insurers who manage such assistance. Essentially,
Takaful is governed by the principles of equitability and transparency
and is anchored by the spirit of mutual help, collective responsibility
and cooperation. This is to create relationship that is mutually beneficial
to all parties.
- When does the ST&T Haj Takaful EMA commence?
The Takaful commences when the Participant leaves
his/her place of residence or business in Singapore (whichever is the
later) to commence the Trip until the time of return to his/her place
of residence or business in Singapore or expiry of the Policy (whichever
is the earlier) on completion of the Trip. In any event the Trip should
not commence more than five (5) hours prior to booked departure time or
cease more than five (5) hours after booked return to Singapore. A Trip
shall involve return to Singapore within the Period of Takaful stated-hereon.
- Is there any exclusion on pre-existing condition(s)?
Under this Haj Takaful EMA, there is no exclusion
on pre-existing condition. The only exception that UOI applies would be
treatment(s) undertaken for relief of chronic illness(es), for example
renal dialysis, and chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer.

- Is there an age limit imposed?
No, there is no age limit imposed as long as the participant is certified
fit to travel at the time he/she signed up the Haj package.

What
do I have to do when I become unwell?
At all times, you should remain calm and cooperative.
Our
recommended procedures would be: -
(a)
Inform the officer of your Travel Agent of the history of medical condition(s)
(and medication) and seek for treatment.
(b) Always have your medical record book for all consultations and treatments
at MUIS and other medical institution.
(c) If MUIS refers you to seek further monitoring or admission to a medical
institution, to inform immediately to the medical officer of your Travel
Agent who will then inform ST&T International staff in Mecca or Madinah.
ST&T
International will arrange to send you to the nearest medical institution
and indemnify all incurred medical expenses including incidental expenses
such as medicine and necessary accommodation and travelling expenses of
a Relative or Friend to remain behind. Our services also include co-ordinating
with International SOS on medically repatriating of the Participant to
the nearest medical institution or Singapore.
- What is this Hospital Allowance for?
It is a cash payment for you to compensate
you for the ‘inconvenience suffered’ in the event that you
have to be admitted to a medical institution during the Haj trip. ST&T
International will provide the cash allowance to you upon discharge from
the medical institution in Saudi Arabia.
You
can use the money in any way you like for example overseas calls back
to Singapore or for any essential items needed due to the hospitalisation.
- What should I do if I lose money while abroad?
You should report to the your Travel Agent or the
Officer from ST&T International Pte Ltd within 24 hours after the
incident at the place of loss.
- Can I claim for money lost while in the custody of another
person?
No. Cover is provided only for money in your personal
custody.
- I just discovered the loss of my wallet and some personal
items, what should I do?
For notification of lost valuables (such as personal
money, personal belongings like spectacles, clothing or jewellery), you
are required to report to your Travel Agent or the officer of ST&T
International Pte Ltd at the place of loss within 24 hours after the incident.
A
Lost Incident Report will be issued by ST&T International Pte Ltd
in which you must use it to substantiate the claim upon return to Singapore.
When you return to Singapore, you are required to complete our Travel
Claim Form and provide such receipts or warranty of purchase for our Claims
Dept to assess the loss.
- How will a claim be assessed if no purchase receipts for
items lost are available?
On receipt of every claim, UOI will first establish
whether the claim is genuine after considering all available evidence
of loss. All items lost should if at all possible be listed in the Lost
Incident Report or any other lost reports. In the event that the Participant
is unable to produce any proof of the age and original purchase price
of an item lost, UOI will make an offer to the the Participant based on
their own estimation of the reasonable value.
- If my belongings are left outside on a bench while I am
in a queue are they covered if stolen?
No, as you did not take all reasonable care of the
property and it was left unattended.
- How do I claim for Baggage Delay?
You are required to obtain a written confirmation
(Property Irregularity Report) from the air carrier.
- Is Baggage Delay at Singapore airport covered?
No, You are covered only for baggage
delays that occur overseas.
- If the flight I am supposed to depart from Singapore is
delayed due to mechanical breakdown, do I get any compensation?
If you have received prior notification from your
travel agent that the flight is to be re-timed to a later hour or day,
you would not be compensated in our cover.
However
if you have already checked-in at the Singapore immigration counter in
Changi Airport and then informed on the re-timing of your departure, UOI
will provide a cash benefit for first six (6) consecutive hours, thereafter
each full eight (8) consecutive hours delay from the time specified in
the itinerary supplied to you to the time of the actual flight.
- I have booked a trip and now
cannot travel because my employer has cancelled my leave - am I covered
for travel cancellation?
No. The ST&T Haj Takaful EMA cover would only cover events such as
a)
unexpected death of the Immediate Family occurring within seven (7) days
before the date of departure of the Trip, or
b) unexpected death of legally married spouse in which the female Participant
is unable to travel due the Islamic practice of ‘Edah’, or
c) Serious Injury or Serious Illness of the Participant being certified
unfit to travel by a Qualified Medical Practitioner occurring within twenty-four
(24) hours before the date of departure of the Trip.
UOI
will reimburse the Participant up to the maximum limit provided for the
loss of irrecoverable travelling expenses he/she had paid to the Travel
Agent for his/her Trip in the event that he/she is unable to travel as
there is no alternative Haj flight or during the period of ‘Edah’
for female Participant.
